A fatal crash on U. S. 27 just south of Summerville started Monday morning off at 7:24 a.m. Randy Michael Cromer, 53, of 1410 Harrison Ave., Gadsden, Ala., died in that crash. The crash also seriously injured 70-year-old Carol S. Bridges, of Summerville.
"[Cromer's gold 1999 Ford Ranger] was traveling southbound . . .[Bridges' white 2009 Mercury Mariner] was traveling northbound.
For some unknown reason, Cromer drifted across the center lane into Bridges' path.
"She tried to avoid him," Trooper Jamie Mitchell said.
Ms. Bridges went so far to avoid the crash that her passenger side wheels were off the pavement when they collided.
She was taken to Floyd Medical Center for serious injuries to her back.
