A second Chattooga County fatal wreck happened around 2:44 p.m Monday. It happened around Hwy. 27 at Trion's wastewater treatment plant.
Witness Katie Tanner, of Summerville, saw a white Ford truck speeding through the Mountain View intersection. Just after clearing the intersection, the southbound truck veered off the roadway and crashed into woods.
"Evidence on the scene showed that [62-year-old Paul Arnold Howell, of 375 Dickeyville Road, Trion] left the roadway and traveled approximately 300 feet before striking a tree. There was no evidence at the scene that the [Howell] ever attempted to control his vehicle's line of travel or change it. There was not indication that [Howell] attempted to stop his vehicle prior to impact with the tree. It is believed that [Howell] suffered a medical emergency and was not able to control his vehicle at the time of the crash," Georgia State Patrolman Chris Harris stated.
