Jessie Lou Bethune, age 86 of Rossville, formerly of Trion, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018 in a Ft. Oglethorpe nursing center.
Mrs. Bethune was born in Hamilton, Alabama on April 23, 1932, daughter of the late James Monroe Howell and Nicie Sumner Howell. She was a member of the Trion Heights Baptist Church and was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills. She enjoyed working with Ceramics and devoted much of her time caring for her husband during his extended illness. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bethune was preceded in death by her husband, William Orville Bethune and a number of sisters and brothers.
Mrs. Bethune is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Pat Bethune of Rossville; brother, Wallace Howell of Summerville; sisters, Verlene Pope of Ft. Oglethorpe and Stella Beaird of Ringgold; grandchildren, Iris Kierbow of Lafayette, Amy (Jamie) Stone of Chickamauga and Brent (Melissa) Edgeman of Ringgold; 8 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Bethune will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. in the Trion Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Vernon Johnson and Rev. Don Moreland officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Ladies Sunday School Class of Trion Heights Baptist Church.
Mrs. Bethune will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 9 P.M.
The family would like to thank the Staff, Nurses and CNAs from NHC Ft. Oglethorpe for the care and compassion shown to them during the illness and passing of Mrs. Bethune.
