Judge Orders The Closure Of Apartment Units

Four units at a Summerville apartment complex will be closed per a local judge’s order Tuesday afternoon.

City of Summerville Building Inspector Joey Norton examined the Pine Hill Apartments on Northwest Congress Street and noted several building code violations. Those violations were so bad that City Court Judge Tracy Maddux reviewed the matter and talked with the apartments owner, Michael Bowman.

At the end of the discussion during court Monday evening, the judge ordered four apartments to be closed within 10 days. The current residents living within those apartments will have to seek legal counsel on what to do next.

The remaining eight units must be reinspected by the city at the end of 30 days. The apartments’ owner must bring the entire complex into compliance with all building codes within 90 days.

The Pine Hill Apartments were built in 1977, according to Chattooga County tax records.
