Wayne Leon Pettyjohn

Mr. Wayne Leon Pettyjohn, age 64 of the Spring Creek Community, passed away Wednesday, May 02, 2018 at his residence following an extended illness.

  Mr. Pettyjohn was born in Trion, Georgia on February 2, 1954, son of the late Luther Dewitt Pettyjohn and Nettie Ruth Keasler Pettyjohn. He was a member of the Spring Creek Baptist Church, where he was active in the church choir. He was formerly employed in the Planing Mill at Mt. Vernon Mills. Mr. Pettyjohn owned and operated Pettyjohn Home Improvements, having remodeled many churches, businesses and homes in Chattooga County and the surrounding areas. He was an expert wood craftsman, making grand champion pieces and won numerous first place ribbons for his work at the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair. He had also become known as the bird man, crafting perfectly made cedar bird houses and handmade and hand painted whirligigs. Wayne loved to Scooter-Poot, which was evident in the fact that he had only had his new ride a year, but has accumulated nearly 294 miles with his trips to Wal-Mart, Helen and the trip he enjoyed most, the Great Smoky Mountains.

  Being an only child of parents that dated 18 years before marriage, Wayne is survived by many loving and caring family members that include his wife, Angie Drake Pettyjohn; son, Michael Pettyjohn; daughters and son-in-law, Amanda and J.R. Brown, Jamie Crain and Lindsey Murphy; grandchildren, Jace Brown, Jocelyn Crain, Jaylee Crain and Sadie Murphy; special family, David and Beth Romine; Ronnie Pettyjohn, Tony Farrar, Johnnie Stoker and others too numerous to mention.

  Funeral Services for Mr. Pettyjohn will be held Friday, May 4, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. in the Spring Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Hollman, Rev. Mark Smith and Rev. Ronnie Pettyjohn officiating. Interment will follow in the Pettyjohn Cemetery.

  Pallbearers will be J.R. Brown, Mark Griffith, Lawrence Broome, Rick Wyatt, Lamar Pettyjohn, Tony Farrar, Larry Wilbanks, Stan Clements and Ricky Jones. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike and Annette Salmon, Gene Brown, Scott Johnston, David Romine, Mike Edwards, Danny Kilgore, Jerry Brown, Kay Broome, Larry Stoker, Jerry Spears and employees from the Planing mill at Mt. Vernon Mills.

  Mr. Pettyjohn will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.
