Billy Don Payton

Mr. Billy Don Payton, age 71, of Trion, GA, died Monday, May 14, 2018, at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Payton was born April 16, 1947, in Summerville, GA, son of the late Glenn Sr. and Hattie Tudor Payton.  He was of the Methodist Faith and was employed with Windstream.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served as a Sergeant in Vietnam.  Mr. Payton coached for the Trion Mites and Trion Midgets, served as the Special Olympics Coordinator, was a member of the Board of Directors for Lookout Mountain Community Services, and a member of the Optimist Club.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Payton was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Jo Payton and Lanora Payton Culver; brothers, John Payton, J. L. Payton, and Sidney Payton.

Mr. Payton is survived by his wife, Joyce Suits Payton; sons, Jonny Payton (Frankie); daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Thomas Renfroe; brothers and sisters-in-law, Horace and Norma Payton, Glenn Payton, Jr., Larry and Karen Payton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Glenda Payton DeBerry, Carolyn and Stanley Cooper, Deborah and David Brown; grandchildren, Nicky and Susan Mann, Ashley and Spencer Ayers, Caleb and Conner Payton; great-grandchildren, Ariah Ayers, Hunter Ayers, and Kai Mann, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Payton will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 16, 2018, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Phil Payton, Rev. Lowell Cantrell, and Mr. Nicky Mann officiating.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Jeff Edge, Todd Suits, John Suits, Tim DeBerry, Charles “Bo” Payton, and Charles Patterson.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Employees of Windstream. 

Mr. Payton will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday.
