Edward Lewis Hemm

One of God’s Fishermen was called to his forever home today. Edward Lewis Hemm went to be with the Lord just 11 days short of his 90th birthday on May 19, 2018 at 4:00 am. Edward was diagnosed with Lymphoma 3 months ago and passed away peacefully at his home in Wayland, Iowa surrounded by his loving wife Margie and children.

Edward was born on May 30, 1928 in Eldon, Iowa, the firstborn child to Sylvester and Carletta Allman Hemm. Edward learned quickly about hard work being raised on the family farm in Douds, Iowa and later working in the coal mines in Eldon, Iowa. He attended school until the 7th grade in Selma, Iowa. He was an Army Veteran who was very proud of his service to his country. In 1956 he met Marjorie Ann Zachmeyer in Lowell, Iowa and on August 24, 1956 they were united in marriage and would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this August. Edward was the proud father of 9 children.

Edward grew up in the Eldon, Iowa area and after his marriage to Margie resided in the Sacramento, CA area where he lived his dream of having a Bait & Tackle store in Elverta, CA. Edward was an avid fisherman that allowed him to make a living being a commercial fisherman most of his life along with working construction and the bus lines in Sacramento, CA.  After retiring Edward and Margie moved to Douds, Iowa and then in 2014 moved to Wayland, IA.

Left to honor his legacy is his loving wife Margie, Sons -David L Hemm (Annette) of Summerville, GA, Mike R Hemm (Sandra) of Brownwood, TX, Mark B Hemm (Julie) of Smithville, MO, Daughters -Kathy R Hemm Jones (Dennis) from Taylorsville, NC, Donna J Hemm Taylor (Marvin) of Fairfield, IA, Carla M Hemm Christner of Fairfield, IA, and Becky S Hemm Yoder (Russell) of Wayland, IA, Daughter in Law, Georgia Hemm of Citra, FL; Sisters- Iola Hemm Thomas of Eldon, IA and Sandy Hemm Kelly (Tim) of Fairfield, IA, Brother- Randy Hemm, 34 Grandchildren, 35 Great Grandchildren, 4 Great Great Grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Letta Hemm, his eldest beloved son, Dennis E Hemm, his beloved daughter, Carol J Culp, brother Leroy Hemm, infant twin brothers, and a sister, Evelyn Hemm Stahl; and a Son in Law, Bob Christner.

Memorial Services are being held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the Eldon Assembly God in Eldon, Iowa with visitation at 1:00 pm and Cremation Memorial Service at 2:00 pm with family graveside service following at the Iowaville Cemetery in Selma, Iowa.
