Ice Cream Eating Contest, Double Steam Engine Planned Saturday

On Saturday, Summerville Main Street will celebrate National Dairy Month by hosting a Homemade Ice Cream Making contest and an Ice Cream Eating contest with cash prizes. The Homemade Ice Cream Making contest takes place from noon to 2:30 p.m. Judging will begin at 1:30 p.m. Registration is free. Voting for People’s Choice Award runs from 1:15 p.m. until 2 p.m. The winning recipe selected by the judges will receive recognition as the Best Homemade Ice Cream in Summerville, a T-shirt, and a $100 Visa Gift card. You will have the opportunity to purchase a wrist band to sample all the delicious homemade ice cream and vote for the “People’s Choice” winner.
Registration for Ice Cream Eating contest will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the contest beginning at 1:30 p.m. Groups will be broken down into three age groups, 6-12, 13-18, and 18 and up. Winner of each category will receive $50 for first, $15 for second, and $10 for third. Come and enjoy the festivities and the delicious homemade ice cream of Chattooga County.
Also, the Tennessee Valley Train Museum will be onsite filming a promotional video for the Summerville Special Train Rides featuring an arrival of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum double steam engine passenger train and working of the Summerville Turntable is scheduled between 12:45 and 1 p.m. Train enthusiasts will not want to miss the arrival of the train and this special photo opportunity.
The public is encouraged to attend this free event. Hours for this special event are 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This event will be held rain or shine.
