Libraries Rock Kicks Off Today, Tomorrow
The Chattooga County Library has announced its 2018 Summer Reading program theme and activities dates.
The program will run from Friday through July 14 at the Summerville and Trion branches.
A kickoff party will be held at the Summerville branch on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until noon and at the Trion branch from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Friday. Enjoy panning for gold and musical games.
The schedule includes:
Family Book Club – Read a book as a family and come together as a group to discuss it. The library will provide the book. Meets on June 5, June 19, and July 10 at 6 p.m. at the Summerville Library. Sign up needed.
Tae Kwon Do Demonstration – By the Seo’s Martial Arts students, Summerville 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5
Drumming for Success – Dr. Arvin Scott shows how drumming builds confidence in this hands-on experience with drums of all kinds. It will be held at Summerville at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 7.
STEAM Camp – Elementary aged students will explore science, technology, engineering, art, and math during this four-day long, hands-on camp. There will be special visits from a meteorologist and the Creative Discovery Museum. Space is limited and registration is required. Lunch will be provided. It will be held at Summerville from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Monday, June 11, Tuesday, June 12, Thursday, June 14, and Friday, June 15.
STEAM Day – Elementary-aged students will explore science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Space is limited and registration at Trion is required. Lunch will be provided. It will be held at 3 p.m. at Trion on Wednesday, June 13.
Chattanooga Zoo – will bring a variety of noise making animals to Summerville at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 21.
Monopoly Man Magic Show – Enjoy sleight of hand magic at Summerville at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26 and Trion at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26.
Science Tellers presents Wild West: The Mystery of the Haunted Piano – Journey with us to the Wild West, where a legendary train-robbing outlaw is about to strike again. After the Sheriff mysteriously vanishes, two young kids must saddle up to foil the great heist. Planned for Summerville at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 28.
Rock the Library! – Dance the time away on the last day of summer reading club at Summerville at 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 14.
Teens will have a spa day where they can make their own spa lotions and scrubs, a locked in the library program, and movie nights. Adults will have Pinterest crafting, mysteries of Chattooga County, Saturday music on the lawn with a live band, etc.
Prizes for all ages will be given to those who sign up and complete the program.
