Summerville’s City Manager Dies

Summerville’s city manager, Tony Carroll, died early this morning at his home.

Carroll has been out of work for several weeks due to his battle with adenocarcinoma. He was first diagnosed on Jan. 20, 2015. He recovered after therapy and returned to work. In Oct. 2016, he was appointed as the city manager.

After going through radiation and chemotherapy, Carroll thought his battle with cancer was over. Then on Jan. 19 this year, a doctor told him that a mass in his stomach was cancerous. It was another patch of adenocarcinoma.

Carroll went to work for the city on Aug. 25, 1989. He worked for various departments and took leading roles throughout the city.

He is married to Lynda and they have two daughters, Taylor and Gabbi. He is a 1984 graduate of Chattooga High School and received an engineering degree in 2004 from Kennedy Western University.

He was a member of the North Summerville Baptist Church, the Summerville-Trion Rotary Club, Chattooga Lodge 704 and Yaarab Temple.

Funeral arrangements have not been made.
