Second Incident: Knife Toting Man Stops Summerville Traffic

For the second time in about a month, motorists have encountered a man waving a knife and stopping traffic on Highland Avenue, according to Summerville Police reports.

A few weeks ago a man stopped traffic and waved his knife at drivers. He vanished before cops arrived.

Then Saturday 911 start receiving calls that a man was waving a knife near the intersection of Highland Avenue and Seventh Street. This time officers found an intoxicated Terry Adams with a knife. He was yelling at a residence on Seventh Street.

“Terry, who had his back toward [me] did not see [me] as [I] turned in. I could see what looked like a knife in Adams’ right hand as he was yelling toward the residence,” Officer David Westbrooks stated.

The officer was able to get the knife away from Adams without any problems.

“Adams, who smelled of alcohol was obviously intoxicated and was slurring his words and repeating himself. He was unsteady on his feet and admitted to stumbling on the roadway. Adams stated that he just wanted to get his medication and go to bed,” Officers Westbrooks reported.

He was arrested for disorderly conduct and public intoxication, according to jail records.
