Trion Mayor Angered By Decision
Trion Mayor Larry Stansell said he would no longer participate in the town’s hiring process, regardless of the town’s policies and procedures manual.
Stansell’s statement followed a council vote on Thursday which shifted the final power to hire all town employees from the mayor to the council.
“I will not participate in the hiring from this day forward. Period, ” said Stansell. “It doesn’t matter what council wants.”
The motion made by Councilman Mickey McGraw would have kept the mayor involved in the hiring process but would have given council final say on who was hired. His motion was supported by Becky McWhorter, Jeff Wilson and Don Harris. Councilwoman Linda Ingle was absent.
