(Updated) June T. Yarbrough

Mrs. June Yarbrough, age 91, of Summerville, GA, passed away peacefully Monday, December 17, 2018, at Oakview Health and Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Yarbrough was born September 9, 1927, in Menlo, GA, daughter of the late Johnny Tate and Bonnie Cavin Hardeman. She was a chemistry graduate of the University of Georgia at a time when few women matriculated technology fields. She was passionate about her family, history, and politics, and was an avid traveler.

Mrs. Yarbrough was an avid photographer and genealogist, researching her family history and documenting the family tree through photography and newspaper clippings which she categorized in large journals. She lived most of her life in Atlanta, GA and moved to Summerville after her husband passed in order to be near to her son, his wife, and her extended family in northwest Georgia and northeast Alabama. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Yarbrough was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gordon Wilson Yarbrough in 2004; and her son, Gordon “Chuck” Yarbrough, Jr. in July of 2018.

Mrs. Yarbrough is survived by her loving nieces and nephews, Jean Hogue, Gayle Woods, Carla Kinney, Vickie Balliet, Laura Cleckner, Jeff Kinney, and Markham Tate.

Funeral services for Mrs. Yarbrough will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 22, 2018, from the Alpine Community Church in Menlo, GA. Interment will follow in Alpine Cemetery.

Mrs. Yarbrough will be in state at Alpine Community Church and the family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service on Saturday.

    June was a long-time dear friend. We were at Young Harris College together and kept in touch over the years. She was lovely in appearance and personality. Will never forget June.
