A Chattooga County resident said his computer was hacked, according to arrest reports.
Charles Williams said he received a call from someone claiming to be from Apple Support about his computer. The caller was able to remote access his computer.
” The man said that they would charge $10.00 to fix the issue with his computer. Mr. Williams said that he would not give his banking information but did provide them with his credit card number,” Chattooga County Sheriff’s Investigator B.J. Montgomery stated. ” Mr. Williams became suspicious and contacted Apple Support and learned that it was not them who had contacted him. Mr. Williams then checked his credit cards and learned that several purchases had been attempted which all but one was able to be canceled.”
Someone stole $952 from his account.
