The Chattooga Indian wrestling team spent Friday and Saturday battling in the Hook’em Holiday Clash at Lambert High School in their last event of 2018. In a 36-team field consisting of teams from five states (GA, TN, FL, KY, and SC), the Indians fought hard to bring home seventh place as a team.
Through the grueling event, two Indians claimed individual titles with four finishing the event in the top six of their respective weight classes. 285 Luis Medina and 220 Alex Mears each went 5-0 in the tournament and finished first while 106 Griffin Jarrett went 5-2 to finish fifth and 182 Jacoby Cottrell brought home sixth.
“This tournament was another tough field just like the McCallie tournament,” Coach Brian Beasley said after the tournament. “There were numerous state champs in brackets from five different states. Our kids wrestled well against good competition. Mears and Medina each pinned their first four opponents before the finals then won convincingly in finals.”
