Lloyd Lester Griffitt
Mr. Lloyd Lester Griffitt, age 85 of Trion, Georgia passed away Tuesday, March 05, 2019 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Griffitt was born in Berryton, Georgia on May 15, 1933, son of the late John Lester Griffitt and Thelma Marie Keys Griffitt, but was raised by his grandmother, Lilly Liola Glilreath Griffitt from the age of 8 years old. He was a member of the Trion United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher; was member and past commander of the American Legion, was a member of the Chattooga Memorial Home and was a member of the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Griffitt served on the Chattooga County Board of Tax Assessors, the Trion Board of Education, the Trion City Council, served on the original board of directors with the J.W. Greenwood Foundation, and last but not least, he loved to play golf. In addition to his parents, Mr. Griffitt was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Lamar Griffitt.
Mr. Griffitt is survived by his wife, Barbara Morgan Griffitt; sons and daughter-in-law, Mike and Brenda Griffitt; Steve Griffitt and David Griffitt; grandchildren, Becky (Paul) Mansfield and Brittany (Cody) Pless; great grandchildren, Morgan Pless. Sydney Mansfield and Elliott Pless; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Griffitt will be held Friday, March 8, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Skip Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery with the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion Honor Guard in charge of military graveside honors.
Pallbearers will be Colby Maddux, Cody Pless, Paul Mansfield, Gwynn Brown, Randy Brinkley and Graham Maddux.
Mr. Griffitt will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
