Pit Bull Attacks Summerville Resident

A 70-year-old Summerville resident was injured after trying to get away from a pit bulldog on Friday morning, according to Summerville Police reports.

Janice Foster was working in her flowerbed in her front yard when”an extremely vicious pit bulldog” charged at her, Officer Roy Williams stated.

“[Foster] said she tried to run from the dog when she tripped on the porch steps injuring her left knee. . . When she fell, she grabbed a lounge chair from the porch and threw it at the dog before it would stop,” Officer Williams stated.

A Chattooga County Animal Control officer was called to track the dog. It lives at a residence on Woods Street, according to a report. Animal control put the dog back into the owner’s fenced yard and secured the dog. A note was left on the owner’s fence, according to reports.

Pit bulls have killed 12 people so far in 2019. Half have been elderly people. The other half are children, even infants.

Securing the fence will not contain a pit bull that has always attacked. There are many videos of pits climbing twenty foot walls, digging under sold fencing, clearing six foot chain Link fences.

    Get a pit bull ordinance.

Require six sided locked enclosure on a cement pad.
Require $100,000 liability insurance per pit.
Allow only one pit per household.
    Require three foot, nonretractable leashing.
Require cage muzzles when on leash.

    These are daily attacks.

Pit owners do not prevent attacks, don’t stop attacks, don’t pay for attacks, don’t care.

      You are 100% correct

WHY didn’t the police leave a ticket? Or is legal to allow animals to attack senior citizens in their own yard? What is wrong with our local law enforcement that this happens repeatedly? No one is safe walking in any neighborhood for all the unleased pit bulls and nothing is done about it. If it were a person trying to attack another they would be arrested and have to go to court, etc. WHY aren’t the dog owners held responsible?

How nice of Animal Control to put a vicious, dangerous dog back into a fenced yard that obviously cannot contain it. A note on the gate? What if the dog hasn’t had its rabies shot? Two children have been killed in the past week in this country by pit bulls, and another is in critical condition after being dragged off his bike by a pack of dogs. Why is animal control not taking roaming dogs to the pound? That’s their job. I’d say it’s going to take a child being killed, but that’s already happened plenty of times in Georgia.

I guess its okay there to walk outside and fire off a gun into the air and if the bullet hits someone it will be brought back to me? Same mentality.

Why wasn’t the dog impounded and the owner charged? Mae and Girlwithoutpearl are absolutely right. Get a pit bull ordinance and impound dogs that run at large and attack people. In addition hold their owners accountable for all damages of the Victim and charge them for malicious wounding. You should probably ban the owner from keeping dogs if they are incapable of keeping them secured as this owner demonstrated. Since pit bulls have been pushed into homes as family pets by animal rescues and the Humane Society too many innocent people have lost life or limb.

Law enforcement is far too lenient when it comes to vicious dogs (usually pit bulls) that attack people and/or domestic animals. A ticket won’t help. Owners need jail time and/or substantial fines.

It’s always the same story: my sweet little pittie never attacked anyone or showed any sign of aggression … until it mauls the neighbor’s child or kills the beagle in its own yard.

The pit attacked the women…yet the only injury stated was she hurt her knee while running away…that doesnt sound like an attack..sounds like self injury. People give pits a bad rap. Show fear and run from any dog…it will chase you…pit or no pit. Yes, the dog shouldn’t have been loose….but sounds a bit exaggerated if all the police did was lock the dog back up in its yard.

I agree with what you said. The dog Could ha e been trying to Play. I have a very large pit bull and he charges at me yes but only to get me to sit down and Hold and love him. They Look intimidating but most are big babies.

Look to the true experts of unprovoked prolonged, neutral ground, suicidal deadly dog aggression, the dog fighters who breed for these traits.

Dog men never say “it’s how they’re raised.”

Their dogs are intentionally bred to mature to suddenly have the drive to kill dogs, even far from home and away from any resource to guard.

Dog men describe their dogs by bloodlines and fighting weights. Some lines are better at hard bitting, others are better at the psychopathic drive to continue mauling and dismembering even after suffering near fatal wounds, even after the other has totally submitted. Some have more stamina. They are carefully bred to bring the best dog killing abilities into each dog.

And Richard Stratton, author of numerous pit bull books, explains that a good bulldog/pit bull can read the weaknesses of his opponent/victim and use that to his advantage.

Man enters your yard, pulls gun and points it at your head. You duck and run, so there’s no crime.

Man enters your yard, holds knife to your throat, but you escape.

Man comes into your yard and points his pistol at your pit bull.

People who treapass with guns and knives get a bad rap.

Sadly, people get these “bully breeds” they then do not train. It may well be good and kind to their family. But their jaw size and lbs. per sq. inch of force is much higher than other breeds. They were genetically chosen to hunt and bring down large heavy animals. Sometimes the genetics take over when there has been no socialization or training. They become a ‘loose cannon’ . Another reason for Seniors to get a CC permit if they want the freedom to be outdoors. My neighbors let some of their dogs roam the Gore area with no rabies shots or training etc. leaving it to neighbors to have to ‘chase them away’…some of them jump into fenced areas…(like my property) and harass children or other pets…any dog can occasionally get out…but those who let them roam are just selfish and ignorant of the harm they can inflict and just plain annoyance…then you hear stories of ‘someone shoots or posions dogs around here’ when you move in.

The dog should have been contained. I love these dogs but not sure if it’s the breed the owners or just so many being breeded. No doubt they r n headlines all the time. I have a suggestion so the ones that haven’t harmed or shown aggressiveness towards anyone have a life. Band breeding of pitts. Make it a law with hi consequences. Those that have them need 2 b made 2 spay or neuter. Have all register and info as law. This will allow the breed 2 die out but allow responsible dog owners 2 enjoy the rest of the life of innocent dogs. If not responsible owners u r highly penalized and dog tended 2 as needed. This isn’t only breed that have had this problem. Chows shepards and Dobermans have all been exposed 2 bad owners and fighters. Dobermans were even diagnosed with a development problem n the skull that was said 2 b a big reason 4 unexplained aggression. That breed has come 2 b alot less than it use 2 b. Fighters will fight poodles and Chihuahuas if they have 2 in order 2 get their kicks sad 2 say. That’s y laws REALLY have 2 b heightened and enforced. I rescued 2 pitt pups not quite fully grown. I fed them and they started fighting over food. Caught n the middle my hands took damage. Luckily that’s all they got and my hands were ok 4 the most part. I was trying 2 find them a home. They were trying 2 kill each other. I had 2 have them put down so sad 2 say. I would not have let them go knowing there was a slight chance that if a child were 2 mess with their food it could b devastating. I have neighborhood pitts loose in streets now. 2 of them. Showed aggression 2 neighbor kids and they fight each other. Lucky Grandma got kids n house. Got authorities trying 2 find them. Don’t know why this is not taken as seriously as it should be. Maybe more widespread law suits should happen if proven it was known dogs were a threat and little was done. Once something happens it can’t b undone so what needs 2 b done is prevention.

Why did they put the dog back into a fenced yard and not take it into custody and euthanize it for attacking a human? I’m absolutely sick of this dog cult America has become.

If that dog wanted to “attack” the person…it would have plain and simple. The person would not have out run them. Throwing whatever lawn furniture wouldn’t have deterred the dog…if it was the vicious. Also, it would have been taken by animal control if a bite had happened. It did not and it was a injury due to the person not the dog. Stop blaming this “pit bulldog” bc what is that?! A bully mix? A bulldog/some sort of pittie? Pit Bull is a pretty broad term people. Let’s educate one another on all the hype that is incorrect with these stories. Also, of course that owner of the dog should have gotten a fine for being off leash because that is unacceptable.

Bear spray is effective for any aggressive animal, and shoots 35 ft. You can also purchase a holster to carry it. It will only help children if they are with an adult, so uncontrolled dangerous dogs are still a threat to our children. Parents, go with your children, arm yourselves. My 5 year old daughter was bitten by the arm and pulled out of our sliding glass door, and brutally attacked in our own yard by a neighbors rottweiler. Animal control did nothing but threaten us with jail if we killed the dog.
