ROCKMART, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Transportation will scale back its construction work across northwest Georgia – suspending construction-related lane closures on all interstates to ease congestion during the coming two spring break travel weekends. There essentially will be no construction-related scheduled lane closures this weekend from noon Friday, March 29 until 10 p.m. Sunday, March 31. Construction-related lane closures on the interstates will also be suspended from noon Friday, April 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2019.
“We hope this suspension of major construction work during these two weekends will allow motorists to get to and from their spring break destination with less congestion and less aggravation,” said Grant Waldrop, district engineer at the DOT office in White. “We understand that a lot of people are hitting the road, and we would like to make it a little easier for them to go through northwest Georgia.
The Department reminds travelers to exercise caution as crews may still work in proximity to highways; and safety concerns may require some long-term lane closures to remain in place. Also, incident management or emergency, maintenance-related lane closures could become necessary at any time on any interstate.
