Burglar Hides Inside Local Business

An indoor security camera recorded a burglar hiding inside a local hardware store Tuesday night, according to Summerville Police Detective Ty Hutchins.

Cops were called to Marvins Builders Supply, 11170 Hwy. 27, around 10:30 p.m. when the burglar alarm went off twice. The store manager also arrived a little bit later to help.

“[I] followed the manager into the store and started to clear the building looking for intruders. When we got to the stockroom, [I] saw that the rear door was standing open a little,” Officer David Westbrooks stated.

Stacked next to the doorway were boxes of chainsaws, weed eaters and other items. Additional items from the store were located outside the building near a ramp at the back of the store.

“Officers were able with the assistance of the manager to access video surveillance from inside the store and do have the suspect on camera,” Officer Westbrooks stated.

The case was turned over to Police Detective Ty Hutchins. He now has a copy of the video and is looking for the suspect.

“The video showed him hiding inside the store. He walked in about 20 minutes before closing time [and hid],” Det. Hutchins said.

The detective believes the audible security alarm scared the burglar before he could steal the items.

“I think he got spooked,” the detective said.
