Russell Hugh “Big Pop” Mills

Mr. Russell Hugh “Big Pop” Mills, age 86, of Lyerly, GA, died Monday, May 27, 2019, at his residence.

Mr. Mills was born August 14, 1932, in Trion, GA, son of the late Y.Z “Pat” Mills and Beatrice Olivia McDonald Mills.  He was a member of Sardis Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed with Mount Vernon Mills.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Hugh Mills; a sister, Ellen Mills; and a great-granddaughter, Destiny Kimbrough.

Mr. Mills is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Cain Mills; a son, Roger Mills; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Katherine Mills; sister, Barbara Gardner; 1 grandchild; 3 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Mills will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 30, 2019, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dewayne Teague officiating.  Interment will follow in Johnson Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Robert Kinney, Jason Kimbrough, Tyler Noles, Justin Edwards, Dakota McGuire, and Greg Blackmon.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of Sardis Baptist Church.

Mr. Mills will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service on Thursday.
