Sixteenth Annual Chattooga Century Ride Set Aug. 8
The Chattooga Athletic Boosters Club will hold its 16th annual Chattooga Century bicycle ride on Saturday, Aug. 8. Saturday. Between three and four hundred riders are expected for this year’s ride.
Motorists are asked to use caution on the roads and look out for the cyclists throughout the county roads.
Each year riders from all corners of the United States along with local cyclists get an opportunity to survey some of Chattooga County’s most beautiful landscapes during the ride.
This year there will be five route options for the riders to choose from. For a more recreational ride, a 15-mile ride, 30-mile ride and a 62-mile (Metric) ride is offered. For the more serious cyclist, a 100-mile (Century) ride will be offered and for the cyclists looking for solid challenge a 125-mile ride will be offered.
Registration is $25 if pre-registered online by Aug. 8. Registration is $45 after the deadline and the day of the ride. To guarantee a T-shirt, you must pre-register. On the day of the ride, sign-in will begin at 6 a.m. at Chattooga High School. The ride will begin at 8 a.m. The last of the riders should arrive back at the high school around 6 p.m. Helmets are required for this ride. All routes will be SAG’d and rest stops will be plentiful.
The CHS Boosters Club sponsors several small fundraisers throughout the year, but the Century Ride is the major fundraising project for the club. Funds raised are used towards the purchase of sporting equipment, summer camps for Chattooga High School athletes and to meet the needs that might arise in each sport at the high school.
