City Adds Parking Spaces On East Washington Street

This week contractors demolished a portion of a new sidewalk in order to restore some parking spots on East Washington Street.
The city is in the middle of a renovation of that a portion of that street. During the process, officials eliminated six parking spaces in front of a couple of storefronts but created a new sidewalk area.
One of the property owners affected by the removal of parking spaces complained that it would negatively impact business on that side of the street.
The council decided to add back a few spots.
The council is also adding a parking lot at the corner of East Washington Street and Economy Street. Officials leased the land behind a former bank building.
The city council voted to lease the lot from Summerville-Trion Bank Share Inc., for $100 annually.
The city plans on transforming the lot. They are going to pave it and paint lines for parking spaces. That is expected to cost about $4,000, according to officials.

The number of parking spaces eliminated was 12 plus. Your article seems to indicate 6 spaces were eliminated originally.
