GIVING EXTRA IN KINDNESS
I have wondered what it would be like if people were more considerate of others. What would it be like to wait in line at the store and not hear people complaining about how long it’s taking to check out? Or when it’s their turn they don’t confront the cashier about their incompetency and slowness? What if people took the time to do one small act of kindness for a stranger, such as taking a grocery buggy for them to the cart area? How would this impact the day of a person? In the sermon on the mount recorded in Matthew chapters 5 -7, Jesus taught upon a number of areas or issues concerning life and living in general. One of the things he taught on was the principal of treating others the way we should; “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” We commonly refer to this verse as the “Golden Rule.” If we were to truly practice this rule how much better would our life be simply because we gave extra in kindness? In Acts 20:25 Christ said it is more blessed to give than to receive but why would he make such a statement? Certainly, our Lord knew about the act of kindness and love for he himself gave more than anyone ever has or will by the giving of his life for us. For those reading this article who want to seek the will of our Lord recall the words of Christ “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another,” John 13:35. Certainly Christ is primarily addressing his disciples with this teaching but for a Christian this love and kindness would extend to our fellow man as well. Our lights can’t shine with an uncaring and unkind heart. The very action we have with our life reveal who we follow and try to pattern our lives after. I challenge us all to take the time to “Give Extra In Kindness” in our daily lives and help point others to the cross of Christ. Love to all and thanks for reading.
Until next week, this is the Scriptural Truth. Tommy O’Kelley, Minister, Subligna Road church of Christ, 706-638-1129 or 423-413-5319, email tmdok4@windstream.net.
