Outsider Art Trail Tour Starts Aug. 17

Paradise Garden Foundation presents the second Outsider Art Trail Tour on Saturday, August 17, 2019.

Leave the hustle of the city for true southern charm and local color at its best! Start your day early at a “picker’s paradise,” strolling through Trade Day (outdoor flea market) and digging for treasures in Summerville, Georgia. Enjoy walks through two great Georgia art environments – world famous Howard Finster’s Paradise Garden in Summerville and The Rock Garden in Calhoun. Visit two folk/outsider art galleries in Summerville — Folk America Gallery, and Finster Framing & Art Gallery. Somewhere in between, cool off at lunch at Jefferson’s for juicy burgers and salads or at The Willow Tree Grill for their specialty chicken salad. Depending on where you start your road trip, find your way to Rome to the Harbin Clinic Gallery at Makervillage to see works by 85-year old memory painter Charles Wimpee. The Outsider Art Trail Tour is a self-guided, puppy-dog-friendly tour designed as a day of chilling, discovery and art. The Tour is free with Paradise Garden admission ($15 adults/$5 children), with donations appreciated at the Rock Garden, as well. Trade Day opens at 7 a.m. (just ½ mile from Paradise Garden), galleries and art environments 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pick-up your Outsider Art Trail “Passport” at any location, as you tour you will earn stamps to qualify for free prizes including a drawing for an Airbnb overnight stay at Paradise Garden.
Make the Outsider Art Trail Tour a full weekend adventure! Consider our two nearby state parks for an array of overnight accommodations – James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park and Cloudland Canyon State Park – www.gastateparks.org/reservations.
