Man Shoots And Kills Pit Bull

A Summerville man claims he shot a pit bulldog after it charged after him twice Friday morning, according to a Chattooga County Sheriff’s report.

Chris Burrage, of Back Berryton Road, was mowing the grass around 9:30 a.m. when a gray-colored pit bulldog charged at him.

Mr. Burrage advised that the dog first charged at him on the mower then ran back toward his neighbor’s residence. Mr.  Burrage advised that the dog then turned and charged at him again while he was on his lawnmower,” Deputy Nick Robinson reported. “Mr. Burrage advised that the second time the pit bull charged at him, he fired two rounds at the dog,
striking it once in the neck.”
Burrage called the sheriff’s department and requested a report. Deputy Robinson was shown where the dog died in Burrage’s yard.

I can say that if you are attacked while protecting a 5 year old boy, watch your throat and back of your neck. That’s where they try to go for the kill. If you are on your back with the dog trying to rip your throat out, grab its open mouth and keep it away from your throat. You can make fists and cram them in its mouth. Warning it hurts like hell but saved us. Also know that it may try to get back to its chosen prey, in our case a 5 year old boy. So be prepared to crawl after it and grab it again and again before it reaches or gets back to the child. If it gets the child it will be devastating. And DO NOT get involved in a tug of war. Grab that dog again and again and insert yourself into the battle. Make yourself its prey. Protect that child. How horrific do y’all think it is for me to be able to give such advice? #beentheredonethat #wontbackdown!

It is a shame that any vicious dogs are not properly contained, muzzled, registered, spayed or neutered, and never properly insured. It’s not rocket science. Good job sir.

I’ve had two pit bulls and they have both been incredibly sweet and not the least bit threatening. We had chickens, cats, birds, and other dogs and neither of the pits would hurt them. People are paranoid because of the bad rap these dogs have gotten. One of my pits loved chasing and playing with the chickens. One of them got stuck in a fence and our pit was trying to help her get out. She loves to kiss the babies and lie down with the kids. We do not leave any of our dogs alone with babies or small children. I could almost promise you that the dog wasn’t trying to hurt the chicken and he was playing with the guy on the mower. These were senseless shootings of sweet, loving dogs.
