Jerry C. “Buck” Johnson
Jerry C. “Buck” Johnson, age 87, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, August 19, 2019, at his residence.
Mr. Johnson was born April 2, 1932, in Perennial Springs, GA, son of the late William Chesterfield and Nannie Ophelia Elrod Johnson. He was a member of Perennial Springs Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed with Georgia Kraft. Mr. Johnson was also a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean War Era. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Pledger Johnson; a daughter, Jerryl Smith; brothers, Jack Johnson, Tom Johnson, Earl Johnson, Clyde Johnson, Willie Johnson, and Buddy Johnson; sister, Faye Johnson; daughter-in-law, Pam Johnson; and a great-granddaughter, Paisley Fulmer.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his son, Dennis Johnson; daughter, Lynn (Harold) Pollard; grandchildren, Eden Smith, Derek (Shahla) Smith, Brittany (Tony) Hornick, Brett Smith, Matthew Johnson, Hannah Johnson, Cassie Fulmer, Will Pollard, Justin (Dana) Pollard, and Michelle Pollard; great-grandchildren, Jessica Barrett, Jayme Barrett, Alia Barrett, Jalyn Smith, Gabe Smith, Isla Smith, Giselle Parker, Luna Parker, Alyra Hornick, Silas Hornick, Raine Harrison, Sebastian Lopez-Blanco, Zailee Fulmer, Kyli Fulmer, Lincoln Brown, Ansley Causey, Caden Causey, Brooklyn Causey, and Mack Pollard.
Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 22, 2019, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Pledger and Rev. Brandon Bishop officiating. Interment will follow at Perennial Springs Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Steve Pledger, Mike Smith, Allen Elrod, Jimmy Pledger, Daryl Pledger, Randy Johnson, and Greg Shaw. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Tapestry Hospice and the Staff of Riverwood Memory Care.
Mr. Johnson will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday.
Sorry we can’t be with the family at this time. we send our condolences. We will miss Buck very much. I will be forever greatful to buck for he saved me from drowning when I was about six (6) years old. He, his Brothers and my Brothers were swimming in Chattooga river and I wanted to join them but could not yet swim. I jumped in went under two or three times before he got to me.
