Church Of Christ
ONE CHURCH AND ONE WAY IN
There is much discussion today in the religious world of the church which Jesus built and how one can be part of that church. Despite the many offered views of the one church there is still one church. In Ephesians 4 we read of one body (the church), just as we read of one Spirit, hope, Lord, faith, baptism and God. Jesus asked His disciples “Who do men say that the Son of man is?” (Matthew 16:13-18). The reply as given by Peter: “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (16:16). Now notice how Jesus responds to Peter’s answer “Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jonah: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in heaven. And I also say unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build MY church (singular); and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it (16:17-18). Paul in his writing to Timothy, made known it was God’s plan to save men through Christ even before the foundation of the world (2 Timothy 1:9). Jesus made it known He would provide escape through a plan that would result in the establishment of His church, His body, bride, the elect, etc. Christ stated there would be one church consisting of those who were saved. Paul in his writings stated that Christ “is the head of the body, the church.” (Colossians 1:18). In Ephesians 1:22, he stated concerning Christ that God “gave him to be head over all things to the church, which is his body.” I don’t believe for a moment there is any misunderstanding that the body and the church are the same and there is only one. This one church is the church Christ established and purchased with His blood thus nullifying any manmade doctrine. The church consists of the saved as seen in Acts 2:47 where the Lord would add to the church (singular) daily those being saved. The question then is who is the saved being added? In verse 38 of Acts 2 we read of individuals (some 3,000) who were baptized for the remission of their sins and these were added thus making them part of the church. They were not baptized because they were saved but rather to be saved (Mark16:16) and to become New Testament Christians. One cannot be saved separate and apart from the church because the church is composed of those who are in Christ and are called children of God. It is the church that Christ will receive to himself on the Day of Judgment and will present to the Father. Friends I write these words with love for you, not to sound narrow minded, bigoted or controversial but rather to hopefully challenge you to search the scriptures for yourself and ensure the salvation of your soul. Please if you have questions contact me and lets study in a loving, kind way searching the scriptures together.
Until next week this is the Scriptural Truth. Tommy O’Kelley, Minister, Subligna Road church of Christ, 706-638-1129 or 423-413-5319, email [email protected]
