Foot Chase Through Park Ends With Drug Arrests

Two Chattooga County teenagers were arrested after one tried fleeing through Summerville J.R. “Dick” Dowdy Park Friday evening.

“The driver pulled into the parking lot of the Burger Shack and immediately opened the driver’s side door and fled on foot toward College Street,” Summerville Policeman David Westbrooks reported.

The passenger stayed in the car and did not try to flee.

“[I] spoke to the passenger identified as Megan Sullins who stated that the subject’s name that ran was Gavin Isham. When asked why he ran, she didn’t respond,” Officer Westbrooks stated.

While talking with Sullins, the officer noticed prescription pills inside a clear cellophane wrapper.

“Sullins, who was not under arrest at the time, was asked about the pills in the cellophane wrapper. She stated that Isham had given them to her just before he ran and told her to hide them. She, in turn, put them in the door panel,” Officer Westbrooks stated.

Police officer caught Isham in a wooded area near East Washington Street.

Isham was arrested for possession of a schedule 2 drug, failure to keep drugs in their original container, driving without a driver’s license and obstruction of an officer. Sullins was arrested for possession of a scheduled 2 drug, failure to keep drugs in their original container and allowing another to operate a vehicle without license, according to jail reports.
