Two Hit And Run Accidents Reported On Friday

A Chattooga County resident said a “Hummer” struck his vehicle and left the scene of the accident, according to Summerville Police reports.

Rodger Galloway, of Summerville, said a white Hummer struck the passenger side of his vehicle around 8 p.m. Friday near the intersection of North Commerce Street and Highland Avenue, according to an incident report.

“The vehicle seemed to have minor damage. Mr. Galloway didn’t have any other information other than it was a white Hummer. I asked if everyone inside the vehicle was okay and had a seatbelt on. [Galloway] stated they were okay and had their seatbelt on. I advised we would try our best to find the vehicle that struck his vehicle. I advised that we would turn this investigation over to a detective,” Officer Matt Wilson reported.

In a second and separate hit-and-run accident, Cloudland’s Rex B. Abernathy said a truck struck his mirror on Highland Avenue near First Street.

He was driving south on Highland Avenue and as he entered a curve at First Street, he met the other truck heading in the opposite direction. The other truck smacked into Abernathy’s mirror causing it to slam against his truck and bust, according to an incident report.

“[Abernathy] pulled over immediately but the other vehicle continued on and did not stop,” Officer David Westbrooks reported.
