Drug Agents Halt The Flushing Of Evidence In Toilet

Quick reacting drug agents stopped people from flushing evidence at 192 Stevens Street on Sept. 11, according to Summerville Detective Ty Hutchins.
Police and the Lookout Mountain Joint Drug Task Force suspected that drugs and guns were being stored for a gang out of California. An anonymous source pinpointed the culprits as Jahari “Jack” McCutchins and David Covington.
“I also had received information that McCutchins and Covington were actively selling drugs from the Stevens Street address. I am familiar with both subjects due to previous encounters and I know them to be on active felony probation for drug offenses,” Det. Hutchins stated.
Agents approached the residence and immediately smelled a marijuana odor allegedly coming from inside the residence. As they approached the house, they heard “brisk movement” inside.
“Agents believed the sounds heard were of suspects attempting to destroy evidence. Agents made entry into the residence to prevent the destruction of evidence. As agents entered inside the residence, both McCutchins and Covington were seen coming out of the bathroom,” Det. Hutchins said.
Officials immediately spotted marijuana floating in the toilet, according to a report.
Drug Task Force Commander Dewayne Brown and another agent noticed in plain view marijuana and other items on a coffee table.
“In the bathroom, the toilet would not flush and appeared to be stopped up. Commander Brown and Officer Matthews lifted the toilet from the floor and a large amount of suspected crack cocaine was located. Due to the toilet was still stopped up, we took it outside and broke it to make sure there wasn’t any more contraband located inside the toilet. In the bathtub appeared to be multiple comer baggies tied in knots,” Det. Hutchins stated.
Inside the gold GMC Yukon, a large amount of U.S. currency was located and was in different dominations. Due to all the evidence seized, the currency and the Yukon were seized in order to file a civil forfeiture on these items,” Det. Hutchins said.
Arrested were:
* Covington, 29, of 192 Stevens St., Summerville, for possession/use of drug-related objects, possession of crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of housing project, possession of more than one ounce of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of housing project.
* McCutchins, 29, of 263 Marks Rd., Summerville, for possession/use of drug-related objects, possession of crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of housing project, possession of more than one ounce of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of housing project.
