YOUR BEST OFFERING
As the collection plates are passed around each Lord’s Day, there are some who give a good amount and some who give little. Those giving little will oftentimes wish they could give more. Perhaps they struggle with such thoughts to the point they feel unworthy in their giving. We have for our learning and edification an example in God’s word of a widow who gave what she had but what she gave was little in monetary understanding and standards. This widow cast two mites into the treasury while others around her were placing in way more. It just so happened that Jesus was there to witness this event and taught his disciples from her actions. My friends she may not have deposited a large sum of money into the collection but what she did deposit was sacrificial to the point it was her whole livelihood. The struggle and thought of how much to give and that we don’t have much to give we need to change our thought. We do have something to give to God! It is worth more than all the treasures of this earth. Jesus described its worth when He said, “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” (Matt. 16:26). Our amazing God has given us the right to decide how to use our souls, and the only choice to be made is to give it to Him! We do not bring to Him the resplendent jewels He already owns, nor the decaying carcass of dead animals—we bring Him ourselves as a living sacrifice. In Romans 12 verse 1 Paul in his writing addresses this abundant giving with these words, “I beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”
Think about it, the sacrifice of self is to be holy and is acceptable. Our sacrifice of self is reasonable. Our sacrifice is service to Him. Now, here is the question each should consider. Have you ever reflected about what you could possibly have to give to God? Here’s an even more important one. Have you brought to Him the only gift worth more than all the world? Have you given your life to Him as a holy sacrifice of self? I encourage you to do so today by obeying his command to repent of your sins, confess his name and be buried with him in baptism for the remission of your sins and live your life as a living sacrifice to him which is the BEST OFFERING YOU CAN GIVE.
