2.4 Magnitude Microquake Strikes Near Downtown LaFayette

A 2.4 magnitude mico-earthquake struck near downtown LaFayette around 4:30 a.m. today, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Three people reported to the USGS that they felt it lightly. Those feeling it were in Ringgold and even one in Elijay.

The USGS says that there are about 900,000 such quakes worldwide each year that are not felt, but are recorded by seismographs.
