Virgil William Holbrook, Sr

Virgil William Holbrook, Sr., age 85 of Fredericktown, Missouri, formerly of Cloudland, Georgia,  passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at the Cedargate Nursing Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He had fought small cell lung cancer once but he had no more fight after it came back with a vengeance…. he was ready to go home to be with his loved ones.
He was born on March 5, 1934 in Cloudland, Georgia, a son of Herbert William and Bessie Mae (Stoker) Holbrook.

He was raised on Lookout Mountain, Georgia and attended Cloudland and Menlo schools. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Franklin Delano Holbrook and Dalmous Richard Holbrook; three sisters Kathryn Rebecca Holbrook, Mary Jane Holbrook and Alice Druceil Holbrook Adkins; son-in-law – Eddie Jean Simmons in 1973 and oldest grandson – Jody Jean Simmons in 1994.

Those surviving include the mother of his children – Lettie Bea (Webb) Holbrook of sixty-six years; brothers LeBron Holbrook of Fredericktown, Missouri and Ronald Durham of Cloudland, Georgia; children – Kathie (Jeff) Ganime of Cascade, Missouri, Rusty Holbrook of Fredericktown, Susan (Eric) Boyers of Poplar, Bluff, Beckie Holbrook (Nick) of DeSoto, Missouri, Virgil (Kim) Holbrook of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren – Jody, Jeffrey, Amy, Tasha, Sam, Travis, Josh, Mandy, Cody, Clinton and Cordell; great grandchildren – Jacob, Josie, Drew, Emma, Odin and Alex; great-great- grandchildren – Jakob, Xander, Oakley, Taylor and Gia and his faithful companion – Willy (his dog).

Virgil was baptized in the Baptist faith, he loved his God and called upon him day and night, the last day he was able to speak he held his arms up and asked Jesus to take him into his arms. He told his family he was ready to go, he wanted to see his mom, dad, Eddie and Jody.

His life was spent outdoors; he loved Gods country, He worked for Jenninson-Wright Timberland Division cutting and hauling logs for many years; if there are trees in Heaven that is where we will find him when we get there. He bulldozed many ponds in his life from Georgia to Missouri. He enjoyed being with his family, going to church and singings. He loved playing his guitar and singing and by all means welcomed anyone to join in. He moved his family from Georgia to Missouri in 1971 where he continued to raise his family.

Visitation will be from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Wilson Funeral Home in Fredericktown, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., also on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Wilson Funeral Home with Bro. Pete Ruble officiating.

Interment will be at the Revelle Cemetery in Cherokee Pass, Missouri.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons – Jeffrey, Sam, Cody, Travis, Josh, Cordell and Clinton with granddaughter, Mandy Livingston as honorary pallbearer.

Funeral arrangements are provided by Wilson Funeral Home in Fredericktown, Missouri.
