Smash and Grab Burglary Happens At Convenience Store

A smash and grab robbery took place at the Wildlife Food Mart on U.S. 27 south of Summerville during the overnight hours Monday, according to Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader.

A motion alarm went off around 2:08 a.m. and Deputy Derek Mitchell found the backdoor smashed.

“We searched and secured the outer perimeter then made entry through the broken glass door. A search of the inner building proved negative contact with any subject,” Deputy Chris Clark stated. “While waiting outside for the arrival of Detective Jason Burrage, Deputy Mitchell searched the west entry of the store on Wildlife Lake Road finding an unopened package of Marlboro 100s laying on the roadway near the side entryway.”

The burglary is still under investigation.
