Update: COVID-19 MONITORING IN CHATTOOGA COUNTY

From Sole Commisisoner Jason Winters
In an effort to update the public on how Chattooga County is monitoring  COVID-19 and to track our social distancing measures Chattooga County will be using the following data points to help determine future measures :

  • Georgia Department of Public Health Confirmed Case Count release daily at 12:00 PM and 7:00 PM.  Currently we are at 1 confirmed case as of 3-27-2020 at 12:00 PM.
  • Communication between Local Government leaders, Georgia Department of Public Health and our medical community to monitor patient in-flow for our urgent care centers with Floyd Urgent Care and Redmond Urgent Care. Specific information will not be released but general information will be released and monitored.
  • Cell Phone movement data provided through Unacast Social Distancing Scoreboard. You can access a county grade based on cell phone movement by going to https://unacast.com/covid19/social-distancing-scoreboard.  Currently Chattooga County rates a D score with -17% less cell phone movement by comparing the change in distance traveled from pre-COVID-19 days.  Georgia rates a C with 27% less movement.  As recently as yesterday we were seeing a -32% decrease.  This date has a reporting delay of approximately 3 days.   We will use this data to monitor movement increases or decreases.

This will allow us to better monitor and take action as we see changes in data points.  All of our Local Governments, County and City Departments,  Georgia Department of Public Health and our Medical Community continue to monitor this changing situation and hope to see increased social distancing in our community to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.  This will be shared through our Chattooga County Operations Update and through our Chattooga County EMA/911 Facebook page daily.
