Roy Lee Tallent

. Roy Lee Tallent, age 88, of Gaylesville, AL, died Friday, June 26, 2020, at his residence.

Mr. Tallent was born May 11, 1932, in Cherokee County, AL, son of the late Clarence Roy and Birmah Estella Pledger Tallent.  He was a member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War.  Mr. Tallent was a retired Sergeant with the Rome Police Department where he worked from 1957 until 1973.  He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.  Mr. Tallent had also previously worked for Spriggs Paving and Construction.  He loved fishing and story-telling.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Frank Tallent and Roland Tallent; and a sister, Ann Tallent Donovits.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Susan A. Tallent; children, Vickie Tallent, Valerie Tallent Cook, Tad (Selena) Hawkins, Michelle (Anthony) Pena, Jessica (Michael) Cabe; grandchildren, Amanda Berkinshaw, Destiny Cabe, Madelyn Hawkins, Ben Cook, Jasmine Hawkins, Elise Tallent, Tyler Lemming, Austin Hawkins, and Kaitlyn Hawkins; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Graveside services for Mr. Tallent will be held at 1:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) Monday, June 29, 2020, at Mount Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Chaplain Terry Kisor officiating.  Active pallbearers will be Ben Cook, Paul Berkinshaw, Tyler Lemming, Michael Cabe, Jason Shields, and Michael Bumbalough.  Wayne Tallent will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will be held privately.

The Tallent family along with the Staff of Mason Funeral Home encourage those in attendance to bear in mind the current guidelines and restrictions that have been set forth by the C.D.C. as it pertains to social gatherings.
