Georgia DOT Board Member Applauds Ongoing Projects in Chattooga, Dade and Walker

Northwest Georgia – Construction is in high gear for the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) and State Transportation Board Member Jerry Shearin, who represents Congressional District 14, applauds the department’s efforts on improving roadways in Chattooga, Dade and Walker counties.

“Transportation is a key issue in Georgia – one the department, the General Assembly and local communities have been working to improve for quite some time now,” said Board Member Jerry Shearin. “I appreciate and support the efforts put forth by State Reps. Deffenbaugh, Tarvin and Lumsden, State Sens. Hufstetler and Mullis, and the department to be fiscally responsible with the new funding made available by the Transportation Funding Act, as well as their steadfast commitment to support Georgia’s growing economy and improve mobility, safety and travel times throughout the state and in Congressional District 14.”

Georgia DOT has several ongoing projects in Congressional District 14. In Chattooga and Walker counties, Georgia DOT is working to restripe and install standard road signs on more than 108 miles of county roads to improve safety and visibility (PI 0013777 and 0013870). This key safety project costs $740,000.

Another ongoing project is the $640,000 bridge rehabilitation project on SR 136 over Norfolk Southern Railroad in Dade County (PI M005692). This bridge was originally built in 1942, but was widened to meet growing capacity needs in 1988. The rehabilitation work to be completed includes spall repair, joint replacement and deck overlay. Once complete, the rehabilitation will add significant life to the bridge structure.
