A couple of weeks ago the City of Summerville installed a black iron fence around the Veterans water fountain in J.R. “Dick” Dowdy Park. The fountain has been vandalized and the pumps broken by children playing in it. City workers planted flowers and bushes around the fence to spruce it up.

The Lookout Mountain CASA group held a grand opening Monday morning to inaugurate their services in Chattooga County. CASA (which stands for court-appointed special advocates) is a non-profit group of volunteers who advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children once they have been removed from their homes and placed in foster care.

Georgia is experiencing a hepatitis A outbreak and Chattooga County is one area seeing a concentration of those cases, the state Department of Public Health said.
