Convicted Felon Arrested For Gun Possession
A convicted felon was arrested for possessing a rifle on Tuesday afternoon, according to Summerville Police reports.
Austin Blake Akery allegedly fled from the Department of Community Supervision Officer Mark Fisher a few days prior and Detective Ty Hutchins knew there was a felony probation warrant on Akery.
Just before 7 p.m., the detective spotted Akery in a silver Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep was stopped at the intersection of Commerce Street and West Washington Street.
“Upon searching his person, I located one .22 caliber bullet in his front left pocket. Akery made the statement to Agent Caine Railey that ‘he was going to grab the gun because he wanted to die.’ I then retrieved the rifle from the vehicle and it was a Savage .22 caliber rifle with a scope that contained a single .22 caliber bullet,” Det. Hutchins stated.
Akery was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to an incident report.
