Chattooga Sheriff’s Reports. . . .
The following incidents were reported by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department during the past couple of weeks. According to incident reports, they include:
* A Walmart employee caught a 45-year-old woman shoplifting on Friday morning. Melanie Sherri Cordell, of Smith Street, Summerville, is accused of using the self-checkout lane to scan only a portion of the items in her buggy.
“. . . Melanie bagged items and then passed all points of sale without any attempt to purchase the items. The total amount that was not paid for was $123.20,” Deputy Daniel Sanford reported. “. . . Melanie Cordell went through self-checkout #48 and skip scanned multiple items.”
* Around 2:40 p.m, Friday, a Walmart employee allegedly caught Shawn Douglas Simmons, of Jason Drive, Trion, shoplifting $42.18 worth of merchandise. He is accused of using the self-checkout lane to scan only a portion of the items in his buggy.
” . . . Mr. Simmons was observed placing items in his bag but not scanning them,” Deputy Nick Robinson reported.
