George Edward “Ed” Coker, 88, LaFayette died Feb. 7.

He was a deacon at Walnut Grove Baptist Church. Ed retired in 1992 from Salem Carpet in Chickamauga. His parents, Columbus “Bud” Coker and Mary Dockery Coker; sister, Grace Gilreath; brother, Emmett Coker and son-in-law, Lamar Saylors died earlier.

Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Virginia Brown Coker, LaFayette; daughters, Gwen Coker Saylors and Donna (Randy) Avans, all of LaFayette; son, Randall (Kathy) Coker, LaFayette; sister, Hazel Thrasher, Greenville, S.C.; grandchildren, David Saylors, Amber Saylors, Linda Young, Lisa Randolph, Lori Hunter, Leann Brown, Nick Coker, and Jordan Coker; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Pastor Randy Avans and Bruce Coker officiating. Interment was in LaFayette City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Nick Coker and Jordan Coker and great-grandsons, Wade Harris, Micah Young, Ethan Young, and Isaac Hunter.

Honorary pallbearers were Farrell Brown, Ralph Waldrop, and Max Colbert.

Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home, LaFayette, had charge of arrangements.
