Roger Cothran

Dies April 15, 2020

Roger Dale Cothran, 54, Summerville, died April 15 at the Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sandy Springs following an extended illness.
Mr. Cothran was born in Rome on Jan. 24, 1966, son of the late Curtis Leon Cothran and Linda Faye Walker Cothran. He was a member of the Berryton Church of God and a former member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 507. Mr. Cothran a history buff and loved to fish, garden, collect knives and guns, go to Farmer’s Markets, and talk politics, but his favorite thing to do was be the best Pappaw to his grandchildren. Prior to failing health, he was employed with H.J. Russell Corporation as a maintenance supervisor and had previously worked with Imperial Bonding.
In addition to his parents, his paternal grandparents, Grady and Martha Cothran and his maternal grandparents, H.M. and Edna Walker died earlier.
Surviving are his wife, Carey Smith Cothran; children, Adam and Tonya Hogue, Portal, Austin Cothran, Ringgold, Ashley Cothran, Ringgold and Haley Hogue Dyer, Summerville; grandchildren, Xavier Hogue, Xander Hogue, Lucas Wright, Landon Wright, Layla Wright, Hadley Cothran and Jeremiah Dyer and lifelong friend, Johnny Lee.
Funeral services were live-streamed at 3:00 p.m. April 18 from the Berryton Church of God with Pastor Jason Lee officiating. The funeral service is available on the Berryton Church of God Facebook page. Interment followed in the West Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Zach Abernathy, Alex Abernathy, Stan Nix, Johnny Lee, Seth Huskins, and Kevin Phillips.
Honorary Pallbearers were Corey Dyer, Tonya Abernathy and Bryson Phillips.
Coffman Funeral Home, Petitt Chapel had charge of arrangements.
